South Asia Regional Consultation on Owner Driven Reconstruction

6-18 July 2008, Gandhidham, Gujarat

The South Asia Regional Consultation brought together for the first time, experts from States, Civil Society Organizations, Government agencies, International relief agencies, Bilateral and Multilateral Agencies, and Academia throughout South Asia, to focus on best practices and policy frameworks which can enable ODR. Researchers, practitioners and policy makers exchanged experiences and lessons through papers and presentations. The report of the proceedings is available here.

State Workshop on Owner Driven Reconstruction for Kosi Floods Rehabilitation

18-19 December 2008, Patna, Bihar

A State Workshop was organized at the request of the Government of Bihar in the aftermath of Kosi floods 2008 to facilitate learning on Owner Driven Reconstruction. Various government functionaries, technical experts, academia and practitioners attended the workshop to initiate Kosi Flood Reconstruction Programme. National Conference on Owner Driven Reconstruction

20-21 January 2009, New Delhi

The National Conference was attended by 150 National, State, and local policy makers from throughout India. It led to crystallization of the methodologies and policy implications that enable and optimize Owner Driven reconstruction, and resulted in initiating process for a National draft policy framework for the Government of India The report of the consultation is available here.

Eastern Region Conference on Owner Driven Reconstruction

18-19 January 2011, Kolkata

Eastern Region consultation was organized to discuss the specific context and disaster recovery processes relevant for Eastern and North Eastern states of India. States of Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Manipur participated. Representation from Bangladesh and Bhutan further enriched the discussions. With support from North Eastern Hill Council, the conference deliberated on how the ideas of 'owner driven reconstruction' could be implemented in post disaster situations to strengthen process of recovery and resilience of local communities.
